Benefits of Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are designed to adhere to the surface of your existing tooth. Rather than replacing a tooth through extraction and a dental implant or denture, dental veneers are a great option for fixing the look of your teeth. Whether you are trying to cover up a chip, crack, tooth discoloration, or gaps and irregular shaped-teeth, the simplicity of dental veneers may be the right option for you. Dental veneers are low maintenance, look and feel natural, require little enamel removal, and increase your confidence in your smile!
Some more specific benefits of dental veneers include the following:
- Natural tooth appearance
- Gums tolerate porcelain well
- Stain resistant
- A color can be strategically selected to make dark teeth appear whiter
- Don’t require much shaping like crowns do, and end up being stronger and more beautiful!

How Do Porcelain Veneers Work?
Porcelain veneers are made of a thin layer of porcelain material, and are custom made to the patient’s tooth size, shape and color. Within just three office visits, we can help you get the best fitting dental veneers for your teeth! The first visit will be a consultation. The second visit will be for making the custom veneers using an impression of your teeth, and the third visit will be the actual application of the veneers.
An impression of the teeth is made during your first visit and is sent to a dental laboratory. The veneers will come back within 2-4 weeks and will be able to be bonded onto each tooth individually. In preparation for your veneer application, it may be necessary to numb the area to remove the top layer of enamel on the teeth being treated. Our dentists will work diligently to trim the veneer to perfectly fit the top of your tooth before it is permanently cemented. Your tooth will then be cleaned, polished, and etched. A stronger bonding process can occur through etching, which roughens the tooth to seem more like your natural top layer.
It must be noted that dental veneers do come with certain risks:
- The process cannot be undone
- Veneers cannot be repaired if they chip or crack
- Though unlikely, veneers can dislodge and fall off. Therefore, it is important not to bite your nails, chew or bite hard objects, etc.
Recovery and Post Veneer Care
The recovery process after dental veneers are placed is very easy and relatively pain free. Your teeth may be more sensitive to temperature at first, with an accompanying mild soreness. Post veneer care isn’t any different from your normal tooth care. You should continue to clean your teeth, come to our office for regular visits, and keep your gums clean. As long as you do this, your smile will last a long time!
Am I A Candidate For Teeth Veneers?
Most of the time, dental veneers are a great option for those wanting to improve the appearance of their teeth and smile. Having healthy gums and good bone structure are indicators that you may be a good candidate for dental veneers. However, it may not be the best for some. If you have generally unhealthy teeth or clench or grind your teeth, veneers may not be the best for you.
