Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

In the case of one or more missing teeth, dental implants are able to replace and restore a person’s full ability to chew as well as improve the person’s appearance. The surgical process includes inserting a fixation screw into the jawbone in place of the root of the tooth. From there, an abutment screw is attached to the fixation screw and a crown is secured at the top. This imitates the real look and feel of an actual tooth, improving potentially defective speech and preventing bone loss.

Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth (with a crown placed on the implant), multiple teeth (with an implant-secured bridge, for example), or a full arch of teeth (with removable or permanent implant dentures).

Benefits of Tooth Implants

Rather than visiting several different offices to help with the implant process, we have provided a more comfortable way. We are proud of our ability to perform the entire implant procedure from diagnosis, to placing the implants, to placing the crown, bridge or denture right in our office. Our Canyon Rim dentists are more than happy to take care of all of your implant needs!

We know that tooth loss can be complicated. Because of this, our office uses a CT scanner to fully understand and determine the best placement of the implants. Additionally, we create a surgical guide for each patient to ensure that the actual placement of each implant in your jaw is exactly where it needs to be.

The Dental Implant Process

Once you walk into our office, you will promptly see one of our dentists. Talk to them about the cause of your tooth loss and any concerns you may have, including but not limited to discomfort when you chew, any gum disease issues, or other teeth that have been affected as a result. Your dentist will diagnose you and give you treatment options. If you need more than one tooth replaced, for example, we may recommend receiving an implant-secured bridge.

From there, we will place the dental fixation screw(s) into your jaw and place the crown, bridge or denture all on the same day. We highly recommend you carefully follow any oral hygiene instructions given to you after the procedure. Regular cleaning can be the difference between long-term success and failure of the implant. If you experience any pain or the implant feels loose, please schedule an appointment with one of our dentists.

Teeth Replacement Options

Every patient’s dental situation is different. Knowing this, we may recommend certain replacement options such as a flipper, bridge, traditional dentures, or even no replacement at all.

A flipper tooth is a removable retainer with one or more prosthetic teeth attached to it. Some benefits of flipper teeth include its affordability, natural appearance, and convenience. They are most typically used to prevent the gap(s) in your gums from closing as you await a dental implant procedure.

A bridge is a permanent solution that bridges the gap where a missing tooth is. The typical bridge has abutment teeth that anchor the false tooth or teeth on either side of the gap. The false tooth fills in the gap and attaches to the anchors.

Traditional dentures are appliances that hold in place with dental adhesive, which needs to be re-applied throughout the day. They also must be taken out at the end of the day for cleaning. This option is much more affordable, but can warp overtime so they should occasionally be replaced.

Sometimes, not replacing a missing tooth may be optimal compared to these tooth replacement alternatives. Talk to one of our Canyon Rim dentists to find out if this is the best option for you!

Am I A Candidate For Implant Dentistry?

If you have one or more of the following, you are a candidate for implant dentistry:

  1. One or more missing teeth
  2. Loose dentures or loose partials
  3. You do not want or cannot get dentures, bridges, or crowns
  4. No tobacco use
  5. Good oral and overall health

How Much Do Tooth Implants Cost?

Every case is unique. But in general, dental implants are an investment. Compared to its alternatives, dental implants do not need to be repaired or replaced every 5 to 10 years. They last a lifetime, and are the main prevention for jawbone deterioration—implant alternatives can’t do that!

The best way to find out how much your custom dental implant care will cost is to meet with one of our Canyon Rim dentists. Call our office at (480) 962-1500 to book an appointment now!

What Our Patients Are Saying

Okay listen. I started going to this office when I lived five minutes away. I moved about thirty minutes away and this is still the place I go to… I HATE the dentist. But by golly I love MY dentist. I am so grateful I found this group of people to help me out with something I dislike so much.

MacKenzie K.

Dr. Sean and the entire staff at Canyon Rim Dental are wonderful!
Dentist trips aren’t my favorite thing, but honestly I’m looking forward to going back because all the girls were so sweet and the dentist was super cool too. They made me feel comfortable and were so accommodating. The place was fresh & clean and they had all the nice new technology. Totally recommend!!
